If you are considering Laser Vision Correction please consult with Dr. Tolchin. She performs pre and post operative procedures to determine your eligibility for vision correction. Dr. Tolchin will consider your prescription, the structure of your eyes and your ocular and overall medical health. Dr. Tolchin works closely with Dr. Samir Melki, MD, PhD, the founder of Boston Laser. Dr. Melki is a corneal specialist who has years of experience performing various vision correction procedures and treating many other disorders of the eye.
Prior to seeing the surgeon, Dr. Tolchin will test and evaluate your ocular health to determine if you can qualify to be a candidate for vision correction. If she determines that you are a candidate we will help you set up the appointment with Dr. Melki and his team.
After the procedure is completed you will return back to Dr. Tolchin for your post operative care. Dr. Tolchin will follow you at one week, six weeks, three months, and one year intervals to make sure that your eyes are healing properly after the surgery.
Please speak to Dr. Tolchin if you are considering Laser Vision Correction.
information about surgical vision correction procedures
LASIK
If you do not qualify for Lasik there are other vision correction procedures you may still qualify for:
PRK (photorefractive keratometry)
LASEK
Other popular vision correction options include implants, corneal strengthening procedures, and other techniques to reshape the cornea.
- A surgical procedure that uses a laser to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism.
- A thin flap is created in the cornea using either a blade or a laser. The surgeon folds back the flap, then removes some corneal tissue underneath using a laser. The flap is then laid back in place, covering the area where tissue was removed.
If you do not qualify for Lasik there are other vision correction procedures you may still qualify for:
PRK (photorefractive keratometry)
- The first type of laser eye surgery developed for vision correction.
- The thin outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is removed and discarded allowing the surgeon to reshape the cornea with a laser. After a short healing period the epithelium grows back to cover the surface of the cornea.
LASEK
- A variation combining elements of PRK and LASIK
- The epithelium layer is cut and lifted from the eye but preserved. The surgeon is then able to reshape the cornea with a laser. At the end of the procedure the layer is replaced on the eye's surface to allow for healing.
